A Welcome Interruption
A very small visitor to my desk, and a pause I probably would not have taken on my own.

A little jumping spider lives somewhere around my desk. Every so often, it appears on top of my screen, walks across the keyboard, or balances on one of the cables and looks at me.
These visits interrupt my flow, and I have realised that is exactly what makes them helpful. For a moment, I stop being completely absorbed in whatever I am doing. I watch this tiny creature move around. We spend a little time together, and the day somehow feels softer.
Nothing has been completed. No problem has been solved. But I have stopped long enough to notice another small life sharing the room with me.
It becomes a moment of contemplation, appreciation and gratitude. A simple pause that I would probably not have taken on my own.
Then my little companion disappears again, and I return to work feeling lighter.
A very small visitor, but a welcome one. It makes me stop. And it makes me happy.
